Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE dying my hair. Every month or so I get bored and decide to mix it up. But have you ever had that sinking feeling right after you finish rinsing the dye out that its NOT going to turn out quite how you wanted it too? As a veteran hair-dyer I can confirm that this is just the WORST feelings, but luckily, I've found a solution.
Spring of 2018 I was obsessed with getting my hair to be grey. Grey is a hard color to maintain because you need your hair to be super super light and then constantly have to re-dye it, in order to keep the shade even. One day I was running short on time and accidentally grabbed a box dye grey from a different brand then I normally used. At the time I didn't think it was that big of an idea and proceeded to dye it like normal. However as I was rinsing it out in the shower, I realised pretty quickly, I had made a grave mistake. All the water running off of my hair was blue!! And not a subtle blue either, my hair had urned neon blue and that was so not the look I was going for.
Immediately I started looking up ways to get this our of my head, I had a performance the next day and my director would kill me if I showed up with blue hair without telling him. It was around 11 o'clock at night by this point and no stores that sold color remover were going to. be open. So after more googling I learned that if you grind up vitamin C and mix it with shampoo, It will take out certain dyes. Immediately I went to the kitchen and searched the vitamins. Luckily we had a new bottle of vitamin C chewable, I grabbed the bottle and rushed up stairs. I ground up probably 25 different pills of the 500mg chewable. I had some clarifying shampoo and decided to mix it into that. After mixing, I put on old hair dying gloves and began to mix it into my hair. I let it sit for 45 minutes and then decided to rinse it out. To my utter shook and amazement it worked!! As i stepped out of the shower and saw my hair in the mirror, it was completely blonde again, there wasn't a single trace of blue left! Actually not only that, but my hair was less brassy and a lighter shade of blonde then it had been before! All in all if you ever have a hair mishap and need to get dye out fast and don't want to use an expensive and damaging color stripper, I highly recommend this method!!
